In June 1946, the Military Council Was reorganized Into the Ministry of National Defense. Based on the operational modes of the U.S. forces for the news, the Military established the coverage system of the military information, and set up a Military News Agency to offer proper information to the domestic and foreign media. The headquarters of the Agency was then founded in Nanking, and started to file stories on 7 July 1946, which became the Agency's founding anniversary.
After the government moved to Taiwan from the Mainland China, the main task, that is, the coverage of the military news, is still unchanged. And the service of providing military news is also never stopped from the foundation in Nanking until the retreat to Taiwan. Since 1971, the Agency has expanded its service to the area of television. It provides news for TV stations and produces TV programs.
The Agency has a president, a vice president and an editor in chief. It mainly consists of three sections,the reporters,editors and business staffs. Some branches or detachments under the Agency are set up in Taichung, Kaohsiung, Hualien and Taitung, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu, Their main tasks are to cover the military news.
Aside from offering military news, pictures and videotapes to the media, the Agency has produced a lot of programs such as "On the Line of Defense", "Chu Kuang TV Teaching "and" Spanning a Long History" Some programs had won Golden Belt Awards, selected by the Government Information Office,many times. Stories and pictures the agency produced are often seen in the domestic and foreign media.That makes this unit become the only domestic professional agency, which offers news service to the media both in print and TV. Meanwhile, in response to the development of the computer network, the Agency has started its internet operations in filing stories hoping to offer the news service as soon as possible. |
