Penghu Defense Command conducted howitzer live firing to show the performance of artillery training

(reported by journalist Chou, Li-Hsing from Military News Agency on May 23rd in Penghu) In order to show the performance of artillery training, Penghu Defense Command conducted 105mm howitzer maintenance firing today to improve the firing skill of soldiers and to verify the regular maintenance of weapons and equipment and the defense and combat skill of troops of offshore islands.

Soldiers of the mixed artillery battalion conducted 105mm howitzer living firing at Wude shooting range this morning, and was supervised by the command of Penghu Defense Lieutenant Huang over the full course. At the beginning of the morning, 8 105mm howitzers were placed in a row and soldiers of artillery squads and artillery commands have busily conducting preparation works including ammunition checking and communication test before shooting.

As the scheduled firing time was up at 5:20AM, artillery squads were ready for firing in turn, and as the firing orders were issued by the superior, and the first high-explosive grenade was fired on time. Each howitzer fired 8 grenades, and 64 grenades were fired in total. Soldiers of the mixed artillery battalion have followed firing procedure, steps and essentials, and have demonstrated their good teamwork and firing fluency, and thus completed today’s shooting mission successfully.

The Battalion Commander of the Mixed Artillery Battalion Lieutenant Hu stated that the training program today is “same level correction shooting”, the optimal sequence of the artillery is found by calculating the error of the initial velocity of each artillery, and thus establish the shooting barrage with the largest damageable range; moreover, the artillery shooting can bring soldiers real firing experience and improve their combat preparation and maintain the solid combat power of the national army to defend our country.
