Goodwill Squadron of Navy Visited the Republic of Marshall Islands and Enthusiastically Participated the National Day Event.

(reported by journalist Li, Yi-Hao from Military News Agency, Onboard Interview) The 2019 Midshipmen and Cruising Training Squadron visited 3 states of diplomatic relations this year, and among them was the Republic of Marshall Islands, which happened to be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the founding of the country, where soldiers, officers, and cadets of the detachment also attended the grand event and participated the series of national day events, so as to deepen the friendly relationship between the two countries through real actions.

As soon as the Goodwill Squadron arrived at the port of Marshall Dalap, it was received with the warm welcome from Hsiao Sheng-zhong, ambassador of the Republic of China in the Republic of Marshall Islands, John M.Silk, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Marshall Islands, Laide N.Jack, Mayor of Majuro, as well as citizens of the Republic of Marshall Islands and ROC citizens.

On the first day of the visitation, ambassador Hsiao Sheng-zhong and various personnel, including detachment captain Wang, went to the mausoleum of the first president of the Republic of Marshall Islands to present flowers and pay their respect, and from there they visited Hilda C.Heine, President of the Republic of Marshall Islands, and Kenneth A.Kedi, Speaker of the Legislature of the Republic of Marshall Islands, then hosted the Dunmu Reception on the Pan Shi-class fast combat support ship during nighttime, where they invited important political figures of the Republic of Marshall Islands, as well as Republic of China embassy personnel, technical delegation, health center personnel, and overseas Taiwanese for a compact and active event schedule.

The highlight of this visitation was the detachment soldiers and officers being invited to the national day event, where they were not only incorporated into the parade formation to be enveloped with the joyful atmosphere along with the citizens of the Republic of Marshall Islands, but units including “Naval Academy Drum Band”, “Navy Band”, “CMC Honor Guard”, and “CMC Chiwondo” also performed at the national day event. In addition, the detachment set up booths at the fair, providing Taiwanese specialties, including bubble milk tea, to serve the people from the state of diplomatic relations, which attracted large number of people, who passionately yelled out “I Love Taiwan”!

Before the Squadron leaving the Republic of Marshall Islands, Hsu Szu-chien, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who went to the Republic of Marshall Islands to send his congratulation, ambassador Hsiao Sheng-zhong, John M.Silk, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Marshall Islands, and Squadron captain Wang, hosted the joint flag raising ceremony, and the Navy Band successively performed the national anthem of the two countries in the grand and solemn atmosphere, where overseas Taiwanese sent off the comrades of their hometown amidst the touching aura, which perfectly ended the visitation to the Republic of Marshall Islands.
