President Tsai: No Compromise on National Sovereignty and No Retreat on Liberal Democracy

(reported by journalist Cho, Yi-Li from Military News Agency on April 4th in Chiayi) President Tsai Ing-Wen supervised the 4th Tactical Fighter Wing of Air Force today morning and expressed her gratitude for their protection of the national airspace; she also stated that as president, she will fight until the end with everyone, and she will let the entire world know that there is no compromise on national sovereignty, and no retreat on liberal democracy.

President Tsai first listened to the itinerary and the mission description of the recent interception of aircrafts of the People’s Liberation Army, then walked to the 5th hangar to encourage the aircrew and technical staffs of the 4th Wing of Air Force.

During her oration, President Tsai stated that coming here and seeing the diligent comrades rotating duties on the first day of the Qingming consecutive holidays, she would like to express the gratitude on behalf of the citizens that the nation is able to enjoy the holidays peacefully thanks to the protection from these brothers and sisters.

President Tsai mentioned that a few days ago, which was also a holiday, when the aircrafts from the People’s Liberation Army flew across the median line of the Taiwan Strait, it was the excellent pilots of the 4th Wing who immediately lifted off and intercepted, then effectively deterred the provocative behavior of the People’s Liberation Army. Apart from praising the 4th Wing, the president has ordered the Armed Forces to implement an immediate and strong fend off regarding the provocation from the People’s Liberation Army crossing the median line.

President Tsai pointed out that the numerous provocations from the People’s Liberation Army through the air, sea, and even network not only attempted to change the status quo of the Taiwan Strait, but also severely impacted regional safety and stability. In order to protect the sovereignty of Republic of China, defend the values of liberal democracy, and maintain regional peacefulness, the role and missions of the Armed Forces will be even more important, and we must fully prepare ourselves to achieve multilayered deterrence.

President Tsai also stated as the commander of the Armed Forces that the confidence displayed by the brothers and sisters from the Armed Forces on the scene is able to let all national citizens know that the airspace of Taiwan is safe in their hands. As president, she will fight until the end with everyone, and let the entire world know that there is no compromise on national sovereignty, and no retreat on liberal democracy.

President Tsai also encouraged the 4th Wing to continue refining their professional skills in the workplace, and become the indispensable partners for each comrade; she will also protect the country with everyone, and lead the 4th Wing on taking off with the future generations of Air Force.

After that, president Tsai boarded the F-16V cockpit, listened to the introduction on cockpit equipment, and took a group photo with the soldiers and officers on the scene; she then awarded the comrades with additional subsidies to appreciate their efforts, and waved to the F-16 fighter aircraft that lifted off to serve combat readiness vigilance mission.

President Tsai was accompanied by subordinates during the supervision including David Lee, Secretary-General of the National Security Council, Chen Wen-Jenq, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Security Council, Yen Teh-Fa, Minister of Ministry of National Defense, and Lee Hsi-Ming, Chief of the General Staff.
